Position Summary

As an Analyst, Power Markets Modeler, you will play a key role in developing our differentiated asset-level forecasts and models. You will research North American power market fundamentals and regulatory trends to provide accurate, granular insights into renewable, thermal, and high-voltage transmission assets. Working within a multi-functional collaborative team, you will bridge the gap between complex power grid data and actionable client insights.

  • Hybrid - 2 days in the office

    Director, Energy Modeling
  • Travel requirements:
    Occasional travel as needed for client or team collaboration
Primary Responsibilities
  • Develop Grid Models:
    Build and maintain forecasts of the North American electric grid using in-house tools and proprietary procedures.
  • Market Monitoring:
    Track trends in renewable energy, battery storage, energy policy, and the retirement of conventional generation.
  • Data Automation:
    Leverage technical skills to automate the ingestion of input datasets and the analysis of model results.
  • Benchmarking & Testing:
    Plan and execute benchmarking to test model accuracy and drive continuous improvement in future modeling.
  • Quantitative Analysis:
    Analyze external US power grid data spanning environmental, financial, and operational metrics.
  • Client

    Collaboration:

    Serve as a subject matter expert to explain market models and scenarios to clients and success teams.
  • Model Ownership:
    Own the evolution of your models over time, ensuring they adapt to shifting market fundamentals.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, or another quantitative field.
  • Strong data analysis skills with hands‑on experience using Python, R, or similar languages.
  • Foundational knowledge of North American power market fundamentals and regulatory trends.
  • Academic understanding of optimization modeling (constraints/shadow pricing) and microeconomics.
  • Basic understanding of elementary finance, including net present value (NPV) calculations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex findings to diverse teams.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment.
  • Advanced Degree:
    Master’s or PhD in engineering, mathematics, or economics.
  • Simulation Expertise:
    Prior experience with power system models like ENELYTIX, AURORA, PLEXOS, or PROMOD.
  • Industry

    Experience:

    Previous work in power markets or renewable energy.
  • Energy Industry Knowledge:
    Deep understanding of ISO/RTO market data, including pricing and congestion.
  • Technical Execution:
    Proficiency in econometrics, statistics, and manipulating data via SQL or Python.
  • Problem Solving:
    Ability to apply structured thinking to break down complex grid challenges.
  • Systems Thinking:
    Understanding how data, technology, and market processes interact across the grid.
