About the Role

Every minute matters in stroke treatment. Magnendo is developing robotic technology to make life-saving endovascular procedures faster, safer, and more accessible. By combining advanced robotics, magnetic navigation, and intelligent software, we are tackling one of the most technically demanding challenges in healthcare while aiming to expand access to advanced stroke care for patients around the world. Join us in shaping the future of endovascular intervention.

We're looking for a Principal Electromechanical Design Engineer to lead the design of complex robotic end effectors that manipulate a powerful permanent magnet at the heart of our system, and to serve as our internal design expert supporting external contractors on other core design projects.

You Will:
  • Lead the design of complex robotic end effectors responsible for the precise manipulation of a strong permanent magnet
  • Own electromechanical design from concept through detailed design, prototyping, and verification, balancing mechanical, electrical, magnetic, and controls considerations
  • Serve as the internal electromechanical design expert, partnering with and providing technical oversight to external contractors working on other design projects across the company
  • Drive design decisions using first-principles engineering analysis, simulation, and hands‑on prototyping and testing
  • Define and review requirements, test plans, and acceptance criteria for electromechanical subsystems
  • Collaborate closely with systems, software, and robotics engineers to integrate end effector designs into the broader system
  • Support risk analysis, design reviews, and root‑cause investigations for electromechanical hardware
  • Help mature design and quality processes appropriate for a regulatory V‑model framework as the company scales toward clinical and commercial products (e.g., ISO 13485, ISO 14971)
You Are:
  • 9+ years of experience in electromechanical design engineering within complex systems (medical device preferred; industrial robotics, autonomous vehicles, or similar also considered)
  • Demonstrated experience designing complex electromechanical systems against strict sensing and control specifications
  • Comfortable serving as a technical authority — providing design guidance and review to internal engineers and external contractors alike
  • Strong fundamentals across mechanical design, tolerance stack‑up, materials, and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding)
  • Experienced taking designs from concept through prototype, test, and design iteration
  • A strong individual contributor first and foremost, with the interest and ability to grow into leading a small team as the group scales
  • Able to operate with the judgment and independence expected of a Principal‑level engineer — sets technical direction with limited oversight, while holding the line on rigor where it matters most
  • Excellent communicator, able to clearly convey complex electromechanical design tradeoffs to cross‑functional teams and external partners
  • An adept, fast learner who is comfortable in a fast‑paced environment
Bonus Points:
  • Experience with design considerations for systems operating in the presence of a strong magnetic field
  • Experience in the medical device industry, ideally with interventional or robotic systems
  • Experience working on government contracts (e.g., DoD, DARPA, NIH, or similar)
  • Electrical engineering skills and experience integrating sensors
  • Working knowledge of medical device hardware requirements (e.g. IEC 60601)

Magnendo Corp. is an equal opportunity employer and considers all qualified applications without regard to any characteristic protected by applicable law. We also participate in E-Verify. Employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of employment authorization verification (Form I-9) through E-Verify after hire.
