Position: Registered Nurse (Reg) - RN2- Special Care Nursery

Overview

The registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients. The registered nurse provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Oversees other assigned team members and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide population specific care in accordance with the BORN regulations and professional standards of care.

(Adult GI, ARTC, Cancer Center, Cardiovascular Center, Device Clinic, ED, ICU, L&D/AETU, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Med/Surg, Mother/Baby, OR, PACU/Henderson, Pediatrics, Pedi GI, Psychiatry, SCN, STAT RN, Primary Care Triage RN included)

  • Adult GI: 2 years Critical Care/GI experience required, unless otherwise noted in job posting. ACLS required within first year of employment, CCGRN certification preferred.
  • Assisted Reproductive Technologies Clinic (ARTC): BSN required upon employment; ASRM RN certificate course within 1st year; minimum 1 year in reproductive endocrinology practice.
  • Cancer Center: 1 year chemotherapy administration in outpatient setting; knowledge of Hematology/Oncology; OCN or in first year;
    Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification Card;
    Oncology Nursing Society preferred.
  • Cardiovascular Center: 2 years Critical Care;
    Cardiac ICU/CCU/Cath Lab experience preferred; BLS/ACLS required.
  • Device Clinic: 2 years device clinic experience with pacemaker programming; BCLS and ACLS required; HRS/NASP preferred.
  • ED: 2 years ED experience; ACLS, PALS, CPI within first year; CEN or CCRN preferred.
  • ICU: 2 years Critical Care; ACLS within first year.
  • Labor & Delivery/AETU: 2 years L&D experience; fetal monitoring preferred; NRP within first year.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine: BSN required; minimum 2 years perinatal; 1 year reproductive endocrinology; BLS required; ACLS preferred.
  • Med/Surg: 1 year Med/Surg; telemetry preferred.
  • Mother/Baby: 2 years Mother/Baby experience; NRP first year; fetal monitoring preferred.
  • OR:
    Peri-operative Nursing Program preferred; 2 years OR experience; AORN certification preferred.
  • PACU/Henderson: 2 years Critical Care/PACU; ACLS and PALS in first year; CPAN/CAPA preferred.
  • Pediatrics: 2 years Pediatrics; NRP first year when cross trained for mother/baby.
  • Pedi GI: 2 years Pedi GI; PALS first year.
  • Psychiatry: 2 years Psychiatry; CPI within first month.
  • SCN: 2 years SCN; NRP within first year.
  • STAT RN: 2 years CCU/Emergency; ACLS, PALS, CPI within first year.
  • Primary Care Triage RN: 2 years Triage/ER/Urgent Care; ANCC RN-BC preferred.

  • Applies knowledge of illness/injury and disease in assessment and recognizes symptoms needing immediate intervention.
  • Plans care with patient/family/significant others and appropriate resources and multidisciplinary team.
  • Engages patient/family as partners in care; updates plan of care and documentation with ongoing assessments.
  • Implements clinical and technical aspects of care per standards of practice and orders.
  • Evaluates responses to goals/interventions and revises plan as needed.
  • Sets priorities in planning and implementing patient care; coordinates discharge planning with resources and team.
  • Recognizes changes in patient status and informs physician/healthcare professionals.
  • Collaborates with Case Managers to address discharge barriers.
  • Identifies primary home caregiver; includes patient teaching and discharge planning.
  • Maintains safe and therapeutic environment; uses two patient identifiers; adheres to infection control and OSHA guidelines.
  • Protects patient and staff privacy; provides comfort and hygiene; uses equipment properly.
  • Assesses need for restraints and uses alternatives when appropriate.
  • Performs point-of-care testing with proper technique and calibration; ensures equipment is safe or removed if necessary.
  • Responds to emergencies; promotes fall precautions and safety practices.
  • Treats patients and families with respect; advocates for patients; informs rights and responsibilities.
  • Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support; participates in performance improvement activities.
