Our Division of Palliative Care offers comprehensive services that support patients with serious illnesses and their families, focusing on symptom management, emotional support, and coordinated care.
This role is part of an interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains that reviews records, triages consults, and creates patient‑centered care plans.
We are seeking a part‑time, 20‑hour Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient Palliative Care team to triage consults and independently perform inpatient consults and follow‑ups. The Nurse Practitioner will work two in‑person ten‑hour shifts per week (8:00 am–6:00 pm) on Mondays and Tuesdays at our main campus (2014 Washington Street, Newton, MA 02462).
Essential Functions- Practice in accordance with Adult Nurse Practitioner practice guidelines.
- Practice under the medical direction and supervision of the OHS Medical Director and/or designated physicians.
- Practice in accordance with written Clinical Practice Guidelines approved by the Medical Director of the OHS.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment.
- Consult with the OHS Medical Director or designee when practice is not supported by a written protocol.
- Document the recommendations of the consultation, including the name of the physician consulted.
- Issue written prescriptions and orders tests and therapeutics pursuant to jointly developed guidelines.
- Request the supervising physician to review prescribing practice at least quarterly.
- Conduct own monthly review to ensure practice complies with guidelines.
- Respect patient privacy and ensure confidentiality.
- Collaborate with other departments and disciplines to ensure optimal care.
- Participate in the review and update of clinical practice guidelines and department policies.
- Conduct pre‑placement physical examinations to ensure appropriate job placement of employees in accordance with the essential job functions and ADA guidelines.
- Provide episodic health care to employees with illnesses or injuries.
- Identify work or life stresses with the employee.
- Counsel employees within the scope of nurse practitioner practice and experience.
- Provide appropriate referrals to managers, Human Resources, the Employee Assistance Program, community resources, etc.
- Manage and evaluate employees with work‑related injuries.
- Communicate employee progress to supervisor/manager.
- Refer employee to other providers as necessary to aid in recovery.
- Act as liaison between management and employees to ensure appropriate care and timely return to work.
- Communicate information as necessary to the Human Resources department and the claims service company to ensure proper reporting to the Massachusetts Industrial Accident Board.
- Make recommendations to manager/supervisor regarding modified duty and plans for return to work.
- Implement programs and distribute informational pamphlets/brochures to increase employee awareness of wellness and safety.
- Provide employees with appropriate referrals to other providers or the Emergency Department.
- Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing required;
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred. - Licenses and Credentials: Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of MA required.
- Experience: 3–5 years clinical experience with occupational emphasis (3 years required);
