Overview

Outpatient only – Full time, 40 hours, 4–10 hour shifts – Monday through Friday only. The NP or PA promotes collaborative relationships among providers, nurses, and administrative staff to ensure continuity of patient care. Focus is primarily on breast cancer patients in the ambulatory clinic at the NWH campus, with anticipated cross‑coverage of solid tumor malignancies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and record patient history and physical examination; discuss findings with the team; obtain and coordinate laboratory results; chart clinical findings; write orders; nursing instructions; and other required elements.
  • Identify, prevent, or solve complex and recurring breast oncology patient care problems using advanced practice knowledge.
  • Follow and manage patients in collaboration with the MD to enhance continuity of care.
  • Perform or oversee specialized procedures specific to medical oncology, as agreed with the collaborating physician.
  • Collaborate with staff and physicians to develop comprehensive care plans, coordinate resources, and write appropriate orders to improve access to care.
  • Ensure timely diagnostic procedures through coordination with radiology and other services; facilitate clinic appointments; and communicate test results to patients.
  • Educate patients on local or systemic therapy and interpret radiology, pathology, and laboratory results.
  • Maintain and practice in accordance with state and hospital regulations, writing orders in line with current guidelines including antineoplastics.
  • Provide consultation to nurses and physicians; serve as a resource to staff in areas of expertise.
  • Serve on intra‑ and inter‑departmental committees and contribute to the development of formal and informal educational programs for nursing and support staff.
  • Monitor patient outcomes and identify system‑wide factors contributing to undesirable outcomes such as complications and over‑utilization of services.
  • Support and conduct research efforts to advance knowledge and promote research‑based practice; evaluate own practice and program effectiveness.
  • Identify pertinent patient care and health delivery problems for investigation and evaluate current research findings for clinical applicability.
  • Maintain professional growth, update clinical knowledge, and attain procedural proficiency for medical oncology‑specific procedures (training provided).
Ideal Candidate
  • 2+ years advanced practice and medical oncology experience (preferred).
  • Prior oncology RN experience preferred for NP applicants.
  • Proficiency with Epic and EMRs (preferred).
  • EPIC inbox management and telemedicine experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with clinical trials (preferred).
  • Demonstrated competence in a specialized area.
  • Effective communication skills with clinical and lay audiences; ability to educate patients and families.
  • Skilled in creating and using electronic medical records for high‑quality, timely documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team; capability to influence and lead as necessary.
  • Analytical and problem‑solving skills in both clinical and operational matters.
Education
  • Master's Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant required.
Licensing and Credentials
  • Registered Nurse (RN – MA License)
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN – MA License)
  • Physician Assistant (MA License)
