The registered nurse renders highly professional and technical nursing care to assigned patients. The registered nurse provides direct and indirect patient care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation). Oversees other assigned team members and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide population specific care in accordance with the BORN regulations and professional standards of care.

Specialty Areas and Additional Requirements
  • Adult GI: 2 years Critical Care/GI experience required; ACLS required within first year; CCGRN certification preferred.
  • Assisted Reproductive Technologies Clinic (ARTC): Dual practice; BSN required upon employment; complete ASRM RN certificate within 1st year; minimum 1 year experience in reproductive endocrinology.
  • Cancer Center: Minimum one year chemotherapy experience; 3 years ambulatory oncology nursing preferred; OCN required within first year;
    Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Administration Certification Card required.
  • Cardiovascular Center: 2 years Critical Care experience;
    Cardiac ICU, CCU, or Cardiac Surgery, Cath Lab experience preferred; BLS/ACLS required upon employment.
  • Device Clinic: 2 years device clinic experience with pacemaker programming; BCLS and ACLS required; HRS/NASP preferred.
  • ED: 2 years ED experience; ACLS, PALS, CPI required within first year; CEN or CCRN preferred.
  • ICU: 2 years Critical Care experience; ACLS required within first year.
  • Labor & Delivery/AETU: 2 years L&D experience; NRP required within first year.
  • Maternal Fetal Medicine: 2 years perinatal services; BSN, BLS required; ACLS preferred.
  • Med/Surg: 1 year Med/Surg experience;
    Telemetry experience preferred.
  • Mother/Baby: 2 years Mother/Baby experience; NRP required within first year.
  • OR: 2 years OR experience; AORN certification preferred.
  • PACU/Henderson: 2 years PACU experience; ACLS and PALS required; CPAN/CAPA preferred.
  • Pediatrics: 2 years Pediatrics experience; NRP required if cross-trained.
  • Pedi GI: 2 years Pedi GI experience; PALS required.
  • Psychiatry: 2 years Psychiatry experience; CPI required within first month.
  • SCN: 2 years SCN experience; NRP required within first year.
  • STAT RN: 2 years Critical Care/Emergency experience; ACLS, PALS and CPI required.
  • Primary Care Triage RN: 2 years Triage/ER/Urgent Care experience; ANCC RN-BC preferred.

  • Evaluates patient responses, revises plan of care, and records progress accurately.
  • Sets priorities when planning and implementing patient care.
  • Coordinates comprehensive discharge plans with resources and multidisciplinary team.
  • Recognizes changes in patient status and informs physicians or other health professionals.
  • Collaborates with case managers to anticipate discharge needs and address barriers.
  • Creates a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, staff, and co-workers.
  • Uses two patient identifiers to match patients with correct care.
  • Applies infection control principles, OSHA standards, and universal precautions.
  • Safeguards patient and personnel privacy.
  • Provides patient comfort and hygiene and uses equipment and supplies safely.
  • Handles restraints appropriately and calibrates equipment for point-of-care testing.
  • Maintains equipment operation and removes unsafe devices.
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies and promotes fall precautions and safety practices.
  • Treats patients and families respectfully and advocates for patient needs.
  • Communicates clearly, shares information across continuum, and promotes management decisions.
  • Assists with rapid responses and code blues when indicated.
  • Performs other clinical duties as assigned.
Device Clinic RN Role Specific Responsibilities
  • Enrolls, interrogates, and programs outpatient pacemaker patients.
  • Recognizes abnormalities and notifies cardiologist for follow-up or replacement.
  • Coordinates care with the healthcare team for timely and efficient care.
  • Educates patients and families about device function and follow-up routine.
  • Forwards information to referring physicians.
  • Ensures timely and proper documentation and billing.
