Job Summary
Newton-Wellesley Hospital (NWH) is a comprehensive medical center located in Newton, part of Mass General Brigham. This part‑time (20 hours per week) Nurse Practitioner position focuses on inpatient palliative care. The NP will triage consults and conduct independent inpatient consults and follow‑ups under the guidance of the Medical Director of Occupational Health Services.
Essential Functions- Practice in accordance with Adult Nurse Practitioner practice guidelines under medical supervision of OHS Medical Director or designated physicians.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment for patients.
- Consult with the OHS Medical Director or designee when practice is not supported by a written protocol.
- Document recommendations, prescriptions, orders for tests and therapeutics.
- Conduct monthly review to ensure practice is in accordance with guidelines.
- Respect patient privacy and ensure confidentiality.
- Collaborate with other departments and disciplines to ensure optimal patient care.
- Participate in review and updating of clinical practice guidelines and department policies.
- Conduct preplacement physical examinations for employees, provide episodic health care, counsel employees, and manage work‑related injuries.
- Communicate employee progress to supervisor and Human Resources; facilitate return‑to‑work plans.
- Implement wellness and safety programs and provide referrals as needed.
Education:
Master's Degree Nursing required. Bachelor’s Degree Nursing preferred. Additional certificate or diploma in Nursing required.
Licensing:
Nurse Practitioner (NP) / Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of MA required.
Experience:
3–5 years clinical experience with occupational emphasis; minimum 1–2 years management/administrative experience in a healthcare setting; 0–1 year experience in palliative or hospice care preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of special needs and behaviors of patients across all age groups; ability to provide patient care with potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent experience (within the past 5 years) in palliative or hospice care.
- Previous experience in ICU or oncology preferred.
- Must be a highly autonomous, high‑functioning Nurse Practitioner.
- ACHPN preferred; otherwise must be obtained within 1–2 years of employment.
