Responsibilities
- Manage infusion reactions and treat as appropriate.
- Review infusion orders for clarity and modify as necessary.
- Independently assess and evaluate patients in the infusion clinic of Stony Brook Cancer Center who present with new or progressive symptoms/signs.
- Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients seen in the infusion center.
- Manage complications of chemotherapy including writing/editing chemotherapy orders.
- Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations.
- Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins.
- Educate patients and family members regarding chemotherapy toxicities.
- Basic knowledge of software packages and hospital information systems (EMR).
- Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.
- Manage and provide coverage for the symptom management virtual immediate care (VIC) program and associated patient care follow up.
- Liaison and collaborate closely on care plan with patient's treating care team.
- Saturday hours required.
Required Qualifications:
- Nurse Practitioner:
Current NYS RN license. Master's degree in Nursing. NYS license and certification as an adult and/or family Nurse Practitioner. - Physician Assistant:
Physician Assistant's degree with NYS License and certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the management and treatment of cancer patients.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with chemotherapy toxicities and infusion reactions.
Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
Anticipated Start DateAs soon as possible.
Background InvestigationThe selected candidate must successfully clear a background investigation.
