Quality Technician I (2nd shift)

M-F: 2:30pm - 11:00pm

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Quality Control Manager this person plans the method, sets up, performs, and evaluates nondestructive inspection on structures, components, and systems to detect flaws such as cracks, delamination’s, voids, processing defects, and heat damage using contact and immersion ultrasonic and eddy current test equipment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS And RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepares for inspections by establishing and validating non-destructive testing (NDT) instructions and procedures; interpreting codes, standards, specification, and procedures; selecting test methods, techniques, and procedures.
  • Completes inspections by determining and establishing test criteria; setting-up equipment; verifying settings; conducting tests.
  • Prepares inspection reports by interpreting and evaluating test results in terms of codes, standards, and specification.
  • Documents inspection results by completing records; specifying defects.
  • Maintains organization’s stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
  • Prepares inspection reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Manages data base software.
  • Perform all other Inspection or Quality related duties as assigned by the Quality Director.
  • Perform Inspections:
    Conduct tests using various NDT methods (Ultrasonic, Magnetic Particle, Dye Penetrant, Radiography, Eddy Current) on components, structures, and materials.
  • Interpret & Evaluate:
    Analyze test results, interpret indications, and evaluate for acceptance or rejection based on codes and standards.
  • Calibrate Equipment:
    Set up, standardize, and maintain NDT equipment for accuracy.
  • Document & Report:
    Prepare detailed inspection plans, document findings, and generate reports for supervisors, clients, and quality teams.
  • Ensure Safety:
    Adhere to strict safety regulations, protocols, and maintain a safe work environment.
  • Provide Guidance:
    May instruct or supervise apprentice-level personnel and assist in training.
  • Collaborate:
    Work with engineers, QA, and production teams to ensure product integrity.
Qualifications/Skills
  • Education:

    High School Diploma, Vocational School Diploma, or GED required. Associate Degree in Quality Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Previous Certification:
    Valid Level II certification in applicable NDT method(s) in accordance with ASNT SNT‑TC‑1A and/or NAS 410 requirements.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    Thorough understanding of NDT methods, limitations, acceptance criteria, and applicable industry standards (e.g., ASTM, AWS, ASME, customer specifications).
  • Training Documentation:
    Proof of formal NDT training hours in the applicable method(s) as defined by the employer’s Written Practice in accordance with SNT‑TC‑1A Paragraphs 6 and 7 or NAS 410 training requirements.
  • Vision Requirements:
    Ability to pass the eye examination meeting Jaeger J‑1.

    Ability to perform algebra, trigonometry, and basic geometric calculations relevant to inspection and evaluation.

    Skills:

    Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital inspection/reporting systems.
  • Attention to Detail:
    Essential for accurate interpretation of indications, measurements, and technical reporting.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Ability to clearly communicate inspection results, technical findings, and non‑conformances both verbally and in writing.
  • Problem‑Solving:
    Ability to investigate anomalies, perform root‑cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Regulatory / Compliance:
    Ability to comply with internal quality systems, NADCAP requirements, and customer‑specific procedures where applicable.
  • Trade Compliance / Work Authorization:
    Due to export control regulations, this position requires U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Position requires direct contact on the manufacturing floor and requires ambulation.
  • Work time is spent in a factory environment where temperatures fluctuate.
