Job Title
Lab Analyst I
Department / Job PurposeQuality Department – The Lab Analyst I performs sample preparation, analytical testing, and data management to support Materion’s customer requirements and ISO 17025 management system.
Reporting StructureThe Lab Analyst I reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist or Analytical Lab Supervisor, with dotted‑line responsibility to the department lead.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Work with Lab Analyst II, Sr Lab Analyst, and department lead to receive training and use QMS software to access and acknowledge training documents and work instructions.
- Provide basic/intermediate training to other lab personnel on analytical methods and practices when required.
- Comply with all procedures and good laboratory practices.
- Follow standard procedures for sample preparation for instrumental analysis, including rolling and cutting equipment, accurate weighing, hot‑plate acid digestion, and accurate dilutions.
- Perform testing and data recording using techniques such as ICP‑OES, Metallography, GDMS, Tensile Testing, IGA (LECO) Tap Density, Hardness Testing, SEM/EDX (and Image Analysis).
- Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment, including handling and movement of bulk acids.
- Participate in lab projects, including process improvement and safety projects.
- Proficient in advanced Excel functions, LIMS (including maintenance of functions related to daily operations), SAP, and other standard office software.
- Education:
Two‑or four‑year degree preferably in a STEM field; high school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum with 2+ years of relevant analytical experience. - Technical skills:
Basic mathematical calculations; reading customer specifications; understanding ASTM standards with guidance; following directions for ISO
17025 accreditation. - Language skills:
Proficient speaking and writing in English. - Reasoning ability:
Sound decision‑making skills, decisive action on limited input, and ability to determine when supervisory input is required. - Physical demands:
Regular sitting; use of hands for handling objects; occasional lifting/moving up to 40lb; occasional standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, and crouching; close vision; good manual dexterity. - Work environment:
Exposure to low concentrations of fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals; low noise level; PPE required for certain tasks.
$27.18–$33.56 per hour (actual base salary may vary based on skill, experience, education, performance, and geographic location).
