Job Summary
Provides a safe and secure environment for hospital patients, visitors, and employees by enforcing hospital security regulations. Continuously watches for and reports potential safety hazards and unusual occurrences in a timely manner through patrol of assigned areas. Investigates complaints or potential criminal conduct; assists in restraining patients as necessary; provides protective services. Possesses and exhibits excellent customer service skills. If applicable, responsible for the arrest of criminal suspects under the authority of a State Special Police license.

- Patrol assigned areas, giving particular attention to those areas where security problems have occurred.
- Identify unsafe conditions and improperly secured areas/property to help prevent theft, injuries, or damages to hospital property, patients, visitors, and employees.
- Maintain strict confidentiality standards at all times.
- Investigate thefts, shortages, and other complaints involving potential criminal misconduct; question individuals involved; notify appropriate law enforcement agencies; detain suspicious individuals as appropriate; when authorized, make arrests; participate in subsequent court proceedings as required.
- Prepare and submit written reports in a complete and accurate manner; make notations in the log of all incidents; keep the Supervisor informed at all times.
- Maintain accountability for valuables/property and evidence; ensure safekeeping; maintain documentation.
- Perform as dispatcher utilizing integrated security systems; radio dispatch personnel to respond to occurrences and calls for assistance; provide and maintain documentation.
- Assist with workplace and domestic victims; respond to medical emergencies; when authorized, assist in the restraint of patients; participate in protection of dignitaries; control pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
- Volunteer participation in departmental committees, task forces, and teams.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice preferred.
Experience: 3-5 years in hospital security, police, emergency medical, or customer service roles. Accepts experience in lieu of a degree.
Licenses & Credentials:
- Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver’s License (State License)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
- Basic Officer Certification (CHSO) – International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety
- Supervisory Certification (CHSS) – International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety
- Personal Driver’s License (New Hampshire) – New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles
- MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report – MGB Internal
