Job Description & How to Apply Below

About the Role

As a Software Quality Engineer at Cumulus, you will be embedded within our engineering team, playing a critical role in ensuring the reliability and quality of our software products. Your primary focus will be our React Native field application, which runs on both iOS and Android and integrates directly with smart Bluetooth‑enabled tools used in industrial environments. You will also contribute to testing our React web application, which serves as the companion platform for configuration, reporting, and data management.

You will contribute to both manual and automated testing efforts, with a focus on building and expanding our end‑to‑end test automation suite using frameworks such as Detox, Appium, and Cypress.

This role is ideal for someone with a software, embedded systems, or electrical engineering background who is passionate about quality and excited to work across mobile, web, and hardware integration testing.

Responsibilities
  • Execute manual and automated test cases on iOS and Android builds of the Cumulus React Native mobile application, as well as the Cumulus React web application.
  • Write, maintain, and expand automated test scripts using Detox or Appium for mobile, and Cypress or equivalent frameworks for the web application.
  • Perform end‑to‑end testing of Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integrations between the mobile application and smart field tools.
  • Develop test cases and test plans for new features and regression cycles.
  • Collaborate with developers on test strategies, participate in code reviews, and contribute to sprint ceremonies.
  • Execute physical hardware integration tests on‑site at the Boston office using real devices and smart tools.
  • Reproduce, document, and track bugs through to resolution; analyze system logs and telemetry to diagnose defects.
  • Communicate findings clearly across teams via Slack, Git Hub, and technical documentation.
About You

You are curious, detail‑oriented, and passionate about delivering reliable, high‑quality software in the field. You bring a hands‑on engineering mindset — whether your background is in software development, embedded systems, or electrical engineering, you are comfortable reading code, debugging integration issues, and thinking rigorously about how systems fail. You thrive in a collaborative environment and take pride in owning quality as a shared team responsibility.

A growth mindset and willingness to continuously develop your skills are essential to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for the Cumulus React Native mobile application (iOS and Android) and the Cumulus React web application.
  • Build and augment automated test suites for mobile (Detox/Appium), web (Cypress), and BLE hardware integration scenarios.
  • Perform manual testing of field workflows, with physical hardware on‑site at the Boston office as required.
  • Identify, isolate, and track software and integration defects; collaborate with engineers to drive resolution.
  • Maintain CI integration and testing environments; contribute reusable testing utilities and automation tooling.
  • Analyze defect patterns, test coverage gaps, and release metrics to proactively improve quality.
  • Support team agile practices including sprint planning, retrospectives, and test readiness reviews.
  • Stay current with evolving mobile and web testing tools, BLE testing methodologies, and QA best practices.
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Type Script and/or JavaScript; ability to read, write, and debug code independently.
  • Familiarity with mobile application testing on iOS and/or Android platforms, and/or web application testing.
  • Experience writing or maintaining automated tests using frameworks such as Detox, Appium, Jest, or Cypress.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to document findings clearly for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and self‑motivated.
Preferred
  • Experience testing Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) integrations or other wireless communication protocols.
  • Background in embedded…
