Coordinator Of Accessibility Services/Academic Advisor
Sussex County Community College is currently recruiting for a Coordinator of Accessibility Services/Academic Advisor. This position is responsible for coordinating accessibility services and ensuring equal access to educational opportunities for students with disabilities while also providing comprehensive academic advising to support student success. This position collaborates with faculty, staff, and external agencies to facilitate reasonable accommodations, promote compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, and foster an inclusive learning environment.
The Coordinator advises students on academic planning, degree completion, transfer opportunities, and campus resources, helping them achieve their educational and career goals. Through a student-centered approach, this role supports retention, persistence, and completion while advancing the mission and values of Sussex County Community College. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Student Success.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate the College's Accessibility Services program, ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and all applicable federal and state regulations.
- Review disability documentation, determine eligibility for accommodations, develop individualized accommodation plans, and communicate approved accommodations to students and faculty.
- Provide comprehensive academic advising to students, assisting with academic planning, course selection, degree requirements, transfer planning, and career pathway exploration.
- Serve as a resource and consultant to faculty and staff regarding accessibility, inclusive instructional practices, and the implementation of approved accommodations.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student records, accommodation documentation, advising notes, and reports in accordance with institutional policies and applicable privacy regulations.
- Develop and facilitate workshops, presentations, and outreach activities that promote accessibility awareness, self-advocacy, academic success, and campus inclusion.
- Assist students in accessing campus and community resources, including tutoring, counseling, assistive technology, testing accommodations, and external support agencies.
- Analyze accessibility services data, prepare reports, assess program effectiveness, and recommend improvements to enhance student success and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in new student orientation, registration, recruitment, retention initiatives, commencement activities, and other college events as assigned.
- Serve on institutional committees and perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission, vision, and strategic goals of Sussex County Community College.
- Contributes to the emergency evacuation plan as it pertains to students with physical challenges.
- May require travel with in the country and within the state to attend critical meetings and other related initiatives.
- Required to attend evening and weekend events as it pertains to orientations, open houses, and enrollment/recruitment initiatives.
- Performs all advisor functions including, but not limited to, admissions and registration, academic advising, responding to student needs, providing general transfer information, and helps students to navigate a variety of educational situations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology, Counseling or related field required.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of academic preparedness.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive student information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
