Student Success Advisor

Sussex County Community College is currently recruiting for a Student Success Advisor. The Student Success Advisor exists to support students throughout their educational journey by providing comprehensive academic advising, enrollment assistance, and personalized guidance from admission through completion. This position helps students navigate academic, personal, and administrative processes while connecting them with campus resources that promote persistence, retention, and achievement. The Student Success Advisor collaborates with faculty and staff to advance the College's strategic enrollment and student success goals through recruitment, onboarding, retention initiatives, and student-centered support.

In addition, the position maintains accurate student records, manages communications, and provides operational support for the Student Success Center to ensure the efficient delivery of services. This position will report directly to the Executive Director of Student Success.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Performs all advisor functions including, but not limited to, admissions and registration, academic advising, responding to student needs, providing general transfer information, and helps students to navigate a variety of educational situations.
  • Provides academic advising for students and monitors student academic progress. Provides referrals to other services as needed.
  • Assists in communicating with prospective and current students regarding registration, retention, and other functions to support their educational journey.
  • Works a variety of day, evening, and some weekend hours to provide coverage for center and College needs. Must be able to retain flexibility with hours and schedule in order to meet the center's needs.
  • Participates in a variety of recruitment and retention initiatives, including those related to the onboarding of new students and various retention strategies.
  • Acquires a working knowledge of the College's ERP System, Portal, and Microsoft Office in order to perform regular data entry and information retrieval.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Student Success and Advising and other staff members to develop, monitor, and assess functions pertaining to the efficient delivery of services provided by the Student Success Center.
  • Participates in a variety of recruitment and retention initiatives and contributes to all Strategic Enrollment Goals.
  • Enrolls in all Open House events and other enrollment efforts.
  • Provide academic and personal support to students as they transition for college level courses. Including course selection, academic planning and career exploration.
  • Manages and triages communication with students in the Student Success Center email inbox.
  • Provides logistics for on and off campus events as it pertains to Admissions, Student Success and Retention.
  • Prepares and maintains data and information on the colleges "I" Drive relative to the Centers operations and procedures.
  • Assists with recruitment efforts as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience in academic advising, admissions, student services, enrollment management, customer service, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds and varying levels of academic preparedness.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive student information.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, to support enrollment and student success initiatives.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Higher Education, Counseling, Student Affairs, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a community college or other higher education setting.
