Head Start and/or Early Head Start Classroom Substitute

Location: Newton, NJ

Hours: As needed, not to exceed 8 hours a day

Rate: $17.28 - $19.59

We are a fast‑paced, high‑demand non‑profit program that depends on everyone in every position to keep our centers functioning smoothly. You will gain diverse experience working with an at‑risk population.

• Assist classroom staff in maintaining a safe, clean, and healthy environment for children and staff.
• Support classroom activities and lesson implementation.
• Promote positive child interactions and development.
• Assist with daily routines and caregiving tasks.

Minimum Education Level: High school diploma; working toward a Child Development Associate (CDA) to be completed within two years of hire.

Preferred Education Level: CDA certification and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field.

Experience: Experience working with young children.

Preferred Experience: Two years of early childhood education experience, direct experience with at‑risk populations, and Head Start experience.

Personal Characteristics: Compassionate, organized, flexible, communicator, team‑player.

Physical Abilities: Ability to lift 30 pounds.
