Adjunct Faculty In Culinary Arts Program
Sussex County Community College is seeking qualified and experienced culinary arts professionals to serve as Adjunct Faculty in the Culinary Arts Program. The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in knife skills, protein fabrication, cooking techniques, use of commercial equipment and sanitation while preparing students for successful employment in the hospitality industry. Adjunct faculty are responsible for delivering classroom, and laboratory instruction that aligns with industry standards and college learning outcomes.
Faculty are expected to foster a safe, engaging, and student-centered learning environment while promoting professionalism, technical excellence, and workforce readiness.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach assigned culinary arts courses in both classroom and laboratory settings.
- Develop and implement lesson plans, demonstrations, laboratory exercises and assessments.
- Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate academic records.
- Utilize the College's Learning Management System (Canvas) for course communication, grading, and instructional support.
- Maintain laboratory safety standards and ensure compliance with Serv Safe Management sanitation and industry best practices.
- Promote professionalism, employability skills, and ethical behavior within the hospitality industry.
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum discussions, and program improvement initiatives as requested.
- Maintain current knowledge of culinary arts & hospitality industry trends
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree in Culinary Arts.
- Minimum of five (5) years of professional culinary arts industry experience.
- Current credentials for Serv Safe Management certification preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in professional cooking, protein fabrication and kitchen management.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to effectively teach and mentor students with diverse educational backgrounds.
- Day and evening availability.
- Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience.
Prior higher education teaching experience and teaching experience at the community college level is strongly preferred. The Learning Management System (LMS) that we use is Canvas. Prior knowledge of Canvas or a similar learning platform is preferred.
Adjunct pay is based on $910 per credit hour.
