Job Description

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate must hold a valid New Jersey School Nurse endorsement (3000) or School Nurse/Non-Instructional endorsement (3010), maintain an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license, hold current CPR/AED certification, and have a criminal history record check on file.

REPORTS TO:

The Principal or the appropriately certificated designee.

SUPERVISES:
Students

JOB GOAL:
The School Nurse provides health services that help students stay healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Working with families, school staff, and community resources, the nurse identifies health-related barriers to school participation and helps coordinate appropriate supports.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Ten (10) Months

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The School Nurse

  • Assess and respond to student illness, injury, and other health concerns during the school day.
  • Develop and coordinate school health supports that address students’ individual medical needs.
  • Administer prescribed medication in accordance with approved written policies and procedures.
  • Plan and conduct required health screenings and coordinate referrals and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential health records, including immunization information, screening results, and required testing records.
  • Communicate with families and staff about student health needs and their implications for school participation.
  • Collaborate with the principal and school staff on plans for students with medical needs and on maintaining a safe school environment.
  • Serve as a health resource for students, families, and staff, and connect families with community health resources when appropriate.
  • Help develop and implement school health-service procedures in collaboration with school and district staff.
  • Participate in student-support meetings, including Child Study Team meetings when requested, and complete other duties related to school nursing services.
Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $62,125 to $68,705 Per Year
