Overview

Senior Veterinary Technician (Overnights Required)
Newton Veterinary Hospital – Newton, NJ

Newton Veterinary Hospital is seeking an experienced veterinary technician with advanced emergency and ICU skills to join our overnight team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled technician, preferably a Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), who is confident working in emergency settings and providing advanced patient care overnight.

Schedule & Compensation

Schedule: Overnight shifts (start/end times, and days of the week can be flexible based on candidate s availability)

Salary: $24-$40/hr + shift differential. See below for tech tier wages.

We are specifically looking for a technician who can:

  • Support ICU and critical care patients
  • Administer advanced treatments and monitor hospitalized cases
  • Assist with emergency procedures and advanced ER surgeries (including GDV and abdominal emergencies)
  • Work confidently in a fast-paced emergency environment
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and strong clinical support to the team

What Sets Us Apart
  • Tiered Veterinary Technician Levels:
    Three technician levels (Level 1, Level 2, Level
    3) with Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced subcategories and wage brackets for transparency.
  • Level 1 – Novice, Intermediate, Advanced:
    Entry-level technician with growth potential, wage range: $24.00 - $26.00/hour
  • Level 2 – Novice, Intermediate, Advanced:
    More experienced with leadership and mentoring, wage range: $27.00 - $29.00/hour
  • Level 3 – Novice, Intermediate, Advanced:
    Expert-level technician specializing in emergency, specialty, or advanced care, wage range: $30.00 - $32.00/hour
  • * Licensed CVTs in the state of New Jersey wages will be 25% higher*
  • Personalized Mentorship:
    Each technician is paired with a mentor to ensure timely growth with regular check-ins and tailored development plans
  • Transparency in Expectations and Wages:
    Clearly defined expectations and growth milestones
  • Shift Differential for hours worked between 12:00am-7:00am
Skills & Requirements
  • Experienced veterinary technician (CVT/RVT preferred but not required based on experience)
  • Strong emergency, ICU, and anesthesia knowledge
  • Comfort working independently as a technician during overnight shifts with support of a present DVM
  • Experience in emergency or specialty settings preferred
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and organized under pressure
  • Physical ability to lift and restrain animals safely
