Position SummaryThe Cost Reduction Technician III – Mechanical is a key member of the Ribbon Cable Engineering team, responsible for supporting and leading mechanical engineering activities related to process improvements, capacity expansions, equipment installation, and manufacturing optimization.
This role focuses on process qualification, line installations, debugging, and mechanical troubleshooting across ribboning, buffering, stranding, and jacketing operations. The technician will leverage strong mechanical engineering fundamentals to improve equipment reliability, drive cost reduction initiatives, and support industrialization of new technologies within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities Manufacturing & Process Engineering Support- Lead and/or support manufacturing engineering projects focused on process improvements and cost reduction initiatives.
- Conduct trials, experimentation, and data analysis on ribboning, buffering, stranding, and jacketing processes.
- Support capability development and pilot production for new technologies during industrialization phases.
- Participate in daily scrap reduction and cost optimization activities.
- Work closely with process engineering teams to complete documentation and develop troubleshooting guidance.
- Support capacity installations, new equipment setup, and line commissioning activities.
- Perform mechanical line debug and prepare equipment for Operations Receivership.
- Align, test, calibrate, and validate mechanical systems post-installation.
- Diagnose complex mechanical failures and implement effective corrective actions.
- Perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of mechanical systems including:
- Hydraulics and pneumatics
- Pumps and motors
- Bearings and gear systems
- Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals to support maintenance and engineering activities.
- Design and implement mechanical solutions to improve equipment capability, reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Identify and manage spare parts, coordinate storeroom entries, and track plant-wide availability.
- Work collaboratively with operations, engineering, maintenance, vendors, and suppliers to resolve technical issues while protecting scope, timing, and cost metrics.
- Provide mechanical expertise to proactively identify root causes and implement robust, sustainable solutions.
- Provide guidance and training to operators, technicians, and engineering team members.
- Maintain safe work practices and promote compliance with industrial safety standards.
- Associate degree required (Mechanical, Industrial, or related field preferred).
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in new equipment installations within manufacturing environments.
- Experience in start-up or commissioning environments preferred.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple priorities.
- Hands-on experience with commercial manufacturing equipment.
- Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gear systems, and conveyor systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to learn new technologies and processes quickly.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic CMMS systems.
- Knowledge of industrial safety regulations and practices.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced project environment.
- Project leadership or project management experience (including milestone and financial ownership).
- Experience working directly with vendors and suppliers (on-site and off-site).
- CAD experience.
- Relevant mechanical or industrial certifications (Millwright, HVAC, Welding, etc.).
- OSHA or other industrial safety certifications.
