CTG's long-standing Fortune 500 client of over 15 years has a W2 contract assignment for a Technical Writer III.

Type: Contract Job Title: Technical Writer III Location: Newton, NC

Duration: 12 months

Pay Rate: Based on experience

Scope of Position: A Technical Writer II is responsible for creating, editing, and maintaining complex technical documentation to support the organization's products, services, and processes. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams, such as engineering, product management, customer support, and marketing, to ensure the clarity, accuracy, and accessibility of technical information for internal and external audiences. The Technical Writer II is expected to have intermediate to advanced skills in technical writing, documentation tools, and content development, as well as a strong ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities:

  • Content Development:
    • Create, edit, and organize user manuals, installation guides, online help, FAQs, release notes, and other technical documents.
    • Ensure all documentation meets high-quality standards, is accurate, and is aligned with company branding and tone.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), engineers, developers, and product managers to gather technical information and understand complex concepts.
    • Participate in product design and review meetings to stay updated on product development and ensure documentation reflects current functionality.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Research technical concepts, user workflows, and industry best practices to create clear, concise, and user-friendly documentation.
    • Identify gaps in existing documentation and recommend improvements.
  • Content Management:
    • Manage documentation repositories, version control, and publishing processes using tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, or Git.
    • Ensure documentation is consistently updated to reflect product changes, new features, and customer feedback.
  • Tool Usage and Templates:
    • Use documentation tools such as Adobe Frame Maker, Mad Cap Flare, Microsoft Word, Markdown editors, or other software to produce high-quality content.
    • Maintain and update templates for consistency across all documents.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Proofread and edit documentation to ensure accuracy, clarity, grammar, and compliance with style guides.
    • Conduct usability testing or solicit feedback to improve documentation quality and effectiveness.
  • Project Management:
    • Manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines.
    • Track progress and report on the status of documentation projects to stakeholders.

    Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Communications, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience:
    • 3–5 years of experience in technical writing, preferably in a technology-driven industry.
    • Experience working with Agile teams or in software development environments is a plus.
  • Technical

    Skills:
    • Proficiency in documentation tools such as Windchill, Adobe Frame Maker, Mad Cap Flare, Robo Help, Markdown editors, or similar platforms.
    • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and version control tools (e.g., Git, Git Hub).
    • Basic knowledge of programming languages, APIs, or software development processes is preferred.
    • Experience with AI-based document enhancement, organization, and training modules will be highly valued.
  • Writing

    Skills:
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
    • Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Problem-solving mindset and adaptability to handle shifting priorities.
    • Additional

      Skills:
    • Familiarity with UX/UI principles or visual design tools is a bonus.
    • Knowledge of SEO principles or structured content authoring is a plus.
