Schedule:

6 hours a day, 5 days/week, 10 months (benefit eligible)

Position Summary:

Bus Monitors provide assistance, supervision, and ensure a safe environment for students traveling to or from school on district provided transportation. Additionally, bus monitors establish a positive rapport with students and staff throughout the school community.

• The noise level in the work environment varies from moderate to occasionally loud in large group settings.
• Workplace demands are often very high; job performance often requires continuous on task behavior in order to perform all job responsibilities.
• Workplace activity may often seem chaotic – many stimuli may simultaneously demand the employee's attention; e.g. students asking for assistance simultaneously, providing support and supervision to a number of students simultaneously.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk and hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee may be required to lift objects/students from the floor or waist to the waist or above the shoulders.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision of regular sized text and color vision.
• Specific hearing abilities required by this job include perceiving normal oral conversation in person, over a public address system, and on the telephone with little to moderate background noise.
• The employee is required to have the ability to verbally and physically de-escalate student behavior using the approved techniques (this includes physical restraint).

Experience:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
• One to three years of related experience or training preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Strong communication skills and interpersonal skills and service skills.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and assume the responsibility for supervising students.
• Able to communicate with assigned students at a developmentally appropriate level.
• Able to develop effective and positive working relationships with students, teachers, parents, administrators, and staff in the school community.
• Ability to perform duties while adhering to all district requirements and Board of Education policies and priorities.

Required Paperwork:
In order to begin employment in any PA public school, all employees are required to complete mandatory paperwork. Background employment clearances must be completed within the last year to be valid and include:

• PA State Police Clearance (Act 34)
• Child Abuse Clearance (Act 151)
• FBI Fingerprints (Act 114) Indento Go

Some additional paperwork includes Arrest/Conviction Report form, PA Sexual Misconduct/Abuse Disclosure (Act 168), physician's health form and recently completed TB test.
