Municipal Engineer Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Municipal Engineer with 3+ years of civil engineering experience to join our growing Municipal Services Department. This role is an excellent opportunity for a professional looking to work on impactful public-sector projects—ranging from infrastructure improvements and utility upgrades to school district support and land use planning.
Ideal candidates will have a background in engineering design, project management, and regulatory compliance. You'll work directly with municipalities, local government officials, and planning boards, bringing projects to life that shape communities for years to come.
Key Responsibilities- Serve as the project manager and main point of contact for one or more municipal clients or public agencies
- Lead and coordinate the design, review, and execution of public infrastructure projects, including roads, water and sewer utilities, public buildings, and recreation areas
- Analyze topographic data, survey reports, blueprints, maps, and GIS resources to support infrastructure planning
- Prepare and present design documents, cost estimates, feasibility studies, and engineering reports
- Develop bid documents and assist in procurement processes; provide technical guidance during contractor selection
- Conduct site inspections, participate in construction administration, and review RFIs, shop drawings, and pay applications
- Attend public meetings and act as the municipal or board engineer for planning/zoning boards, providing expert review of private development submissions
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes including NEC, CBC, NFPA, and environmental regulations
- Mentor junior engineers and support staff to ensure project success and professional development
- Advise municipal clients on capital improvement plans, infrastructure assessments, and grant funding opportunities
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
- Active EIT highly preferred or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license also a plus
- Minimum of 3+ years of civil engineering experience, preferably with public-sector clients
- Strong working knowledge of stormwater modeling, grading, utilities, and roadway design
- Familiarity with construction administration, permitting processes, and regulatory compliance
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office
