Role Description

Arcadis is seeking an Industrial Hygiene Specialist to join our Sustainable Operations team in Newtown, PA. The role involves approximately 75% fieldwork and 25% office work. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with asbestos, lead‑based paint, hazardous building materials, indoor air quality and mold, industrial hygiene exposure monitoring, building characterization assessments, soil and water sampling, project oversight, and report preparation.

Candidates must have at least 3 years of experience and hold the required licenses and credentials. Arcadis will provide specific training.

Role Accountabilities
  • Complete inspections, bulk sampling, abatement oversight, air monitoring, and assessments for a variety of projects including manufacturing plants, warehouses, public and private buildings, schools, and residential homes.
  • Assist with client reports, scoping projects, and proposal preparation using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other programs.
  • Conduct asbestos and lead‑based paint surveys and support abatement projects, indoor air quality and mold investigations, mold and water‑damage remediation, ventilation assessments, and development and review of health and safety plans (HASPs).
  • Work in a client‑focused consulting environment with an emphasis on industrial hygiene, including asbestos, lead‑based paint, hazardous building materials management, indoor air quality and mold evaluations, and chemical exposure assessments.
  • Perform inspections and surveys for asbestos, lead, mold, and water intrusion, indoor air quality, and other regulated building materials.
  • Coordinate with agencies, management, staff, and subcontractors to define project scope and schedules.
  • Conduct advanced technical surveys and oversee subcontractor work.
  • Accurately document field activities using provided tools.
  • Review, interpret, and evaluate field observations and laboratory data.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, summary reports, and other client deliverables.
  • Receive technical and business mentorship from senior members of the EH&S consulting team.
  • Mentor and support junior staff within the Industrial Hygiene group.
  • Travel as needed, including overnight trips and weekends; possess a valid driver’s license; pass a medical exam and be medically cleared to wear a negative‑pressure respirator; lift and carry up to 30 lbs of equipment during an 8‑hour shift.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in a science‑related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the professional services or consulting business.
  • State‑specific asbestos training and licensure.
  • Knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos, lead‑based paint, and other regulated building materials.
  • OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER (preferred).
  • Asbestos Safety Technician (AST) license in New Jersey (preferred).
  • Experience with report preparation (preferred).
  • Industry‑recognized certification in industrial hygiene (e.g., CIH, IHT) or indoor environmental or air‑quality consulting (e.g., CIEC, CIAQP) (preferred).
  • NIOSH 582 training (preferred).
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently and with a project team in a fast‑paced environment (preferred).

The salary range for this position is $64,800 – $97,200. Actual salaries vary based on experience, education, budget, internal equity, project, and location.
