PositionSummary
We are seeking a Senior Accounting Associate to independently manage a portfolio of monthly outsourced accounting engagements. This role requires someone who can run client jobs from start to finish with minimal oversight, supervise and develop junior staff, work confidently across multiple accounting platforms, and understand the financial mechanics of the engagement from the firm's side — including billing, realization, and utilization.
Key Responsibilities Client & Engagement Management- Independently manage a portfolio of multiple monthly outsourced accounting clients simultaneously, ensuring deliverables are accurate and on schedule
- Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, building trusted day‑to‑day relationships
- Perform and review monthly close processes: bank/credit card reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
- Identify and resolve accounting discrepancies, escalating complex issues appropriately
- Lead, delegate to, and review the work of staff‑level associates and bookkeepers on assigned engagements
- Provide on‑the‑job training and mentorship to junior team members
- Review work product for accuracy and completeness before client/manager delivery
- Work fluently across multiple accounting platforms (e.g., Quick Books Online/Desktop, Xero, Net Suite, Sage, ) and quickly learn new systems as clients require
- Leverage software tools and automation to improve efficiency of recurring monthly processes
- Troubleshoot system/integration issues (bank feeds, app connections, etc.)
- Understand engagement‑level billing, realization, and profitability; flag scope creep and communicate it to management
- Track and manage personal utilization against firm targets; manage time efficiently across a multi‑client workload
- Assist with budget‑to‑actual analysis on engagements and provide input on staffing/scoping decisions
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including public accounting, outsourced/client accounting services (CAS), or multi‑client bookkeeping environment
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and full‑cycle monthly close processes
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple client engagements concurrently
- Proficiency with at least one major accounting platform and demonstrated ability to learn new systems quickly
- Experience reviewing/supervising the work of junior staff
- Strong communication skills; comfortable as a direct client contact
- CPA or CPA‑track a plus, not required
- Client engagements are consistently delivered accurately and on time with minimal partner/manager intervention
- Staff supervised on engagements show growth and improved accuracy over time
- Utilization and billing targets are consistently met
- Client relationships are stable, with high retention on the associate's portfolio
