The part-time Library Specialist plays a vital role in advancing the academic mission of Northwest Florida State College (NWFSC) by providing comprehensive library services and support. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who thrives on continuous learning, while maintaining a strong commitment to excellent customer service. This position is directly accountable to the Director, Learning Resources and Library Services for the following duties and responsibilities:
Electronic Resources (e-Resources) Management
- Manage the library's list of online resources and databases, ensuring proper linking and authentication
- With the director's support, works with the Florida Virtual Campus (FLVC) to maintain statewide resources
- Assists the Director with gathering and organizing usage data for online resources and databases
- Communicate with product vendors to remain current and informed about resource subscriptions, following the director's guidance
- Respond to e-Resource problems and submit help tickets when needed
- Stay informed about NWFSC academic programs to ensure library collections align with educational curricula
- Consult collection development tools to recommend and select materials to be acquired by the library
- Participate in de-selection (weeding) of library materials that are no longer useful, relevant, timely, or accurate
- Take a systematic and ongoing approach to selection and weeding
- Promote the library's collections to campus stakeholders
- Assist users in locating and accessing library resources including print and electronic materials
- Ensure materials are properly organized, maintained, and accessible according to library standards
- Explore new technologies that improve library services and user experience
- Approach AI with curiosity, critical thinking, and ethical awareness, and maintain compliance with acceptable use guidelines
- Stay informed about AI trends in libraries and practice skills in using AI tools
- Leverage personal strengths to contribute to team goals and library initiatives
- Engage in continuous assessment and improvement of library services
- Stay current with trends in academic librarianship and apply new knowledge
- Participate in professional development opportunities
- Contribute to a culture of teamwork and appreciation
- Recommend improvements to workflows, policies, and procedures
- Open and/or closes and secures the Learning Resource Center/Library, as scheduled
- Staff the circulation desk as scheduled
- Complete mandatory annual compliance training
- Perform other duties and services as assigned or requested
- Bachelor's degree in library or information science, or another 4-year degree with experience working in a library
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Exceptional customer service
- Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
- Some physical effort may be required: occasionally moving up to 25 pounds, or positioning books on shelves above shoulder level or near the ground
- Requires regular use of technology and operating a keyboard

Rate of Pay: $18.00 per hour
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week
Location: Niceville Campus
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
