R.J. Corman Railroad Group is seeking an experienced accounting leader to guide our Accounting Business Partner team and elevate financial reporting, operational partnership, and strategic decision‑making across the organization.
This position is based at R.J. Corman's headquarters in Nicholasville, Kentucky and works fully on-site alongside our Accounting, Operations, and Corporate teams. Regular in-person collaboration is an essential part of the role and supports the strong business partnerships that drive success across the organization.
This role is ideal for a seasoned accounting professional who thrives at the intersection of financial stewardship and business strategy. You’ll lead a high‑performing team, strengthen financial processes and controls, and partner closely with leaders across Operations, Finance, Commercial, Procurement, and Executive Leadership.
Key Responsibilities:- Team Leadership — Develop and guide Accounting Business Partners responsible for reporting, close activities, and operational support.
- Financial Close Oversight — Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close for the company, ensuring accuracy and GAAP compliance.
- Process & Control Improvement — Enhance reporting, controls, systems, and procedures.
- Strategic Business Partnership — Provide insights, performance analysis, and guidance to support profitability and growth.
- Financial Review — Analyze results, forecasts, budgets, and KPIs to identify trends and opportunities.
- Controller Mindset — Promote ownership of financial results and balance sheet integrity.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration — Partner with Operations, Commercial, Procurement, and Executive Leadership.
- Technical Accounting — Research complex accounting matters and support new GAAP implementations.
- Audit Management — Maintain audit‑ready documentation and coordinate external audit deliverables.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred;
Finance considered - CPA required
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience (10+ for Director level)
- Leadership experience managing accounting professionals
- Strong U.S. GAAP and financial statement preparation background
- Operational partnership experience preferred
- Public accounting experience a plus
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
