Position Title: CHILD CARE ASSISTANT

Responsible To: Child Care Program Director

Basic Function: Assists the director in providing a safe and quality environment for children in the Child Care Program.

Performance Responsibilities:

• Monitors children in small or large groups to ensure their safety and follows procedures to safeguard the health and safety of children.
• Assists the director in planning various activities for the children.
• Assists with organizing materials.
• Promotes positive parent and child interactions and activities.
• Participate in staff activities and in special training programs.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge of:

• Safe practices in program and playground activities.
• Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
• Basic record-keeping techniques.
• Health and safety regulations.

Ability to:

• Learn child guidance principles and practices.
• Communicate and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and staff members, both orally and in writing.
• Print and write legibly.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Learn and apply safety procedures and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Any combination equivalent to:
  High school diploma, GED certificate, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining a GED as required by Kentucky law.
• Experience working with children in an organized setting.

Terms of Employment: Salary and work year to be established by the board of education

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of board policy for classified personnel.
