Job DescriptionPOSITION: High School Counselor
QUALIFICATIONS: Rank II or higher with EPSB certification in School Social Work, Guidance and Counseling or School Psychology.
REPORTS TO: Principal
PURPOSE: Utilizing leadership, advocacy, and collaboration, Middle School Counselors promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to student needs by implementing the core values of a comprehensive school counseling program. The program addresses the core values of college and career readiness; opportunity and access; and social, emotional, and behavioral health.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates with other School Counselors to develop, manage, and deliver a Comprehensive School Counseling program.
- Provides leadership and collaborates with school level administrators and teachers to ensure a school wide integration of the core values of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program. Educate teachers, staff, and parents on the impact of mental health issues on student success.
- Participates within the educational system as a team member on school, district, and state committees.
- Assists students, individually, in small groups or in classroom groups with developing academic, personal and social skills, goals and plans.
- Assists students with development of post secondary educational and career goals and plans through coordinating: ILPs, Governor's Scholars and School of Arts Program, College/Military visits, available scholarship programs, providing letters of recommendation for programs, scholarships and college, other programs as identified by the school.
- Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns and needs.
- Provides responsive services to students, families, and staff.
- Serves as a member of the District Crisis Response Team.
- Serves as an advocate for students by consulting and collaborating effectively with parents, guardians, and other educational resources.
- Assist in development of master schedule to ensure student access to appropriate programming while ensuring all students are academically challenged by their individual course selections.
- Ensures students are meeting graduation requirements through: assisting students with schedule creation/changes, monitoring student graduation plans, completing procedures related to eligibility for graduation, evaluating and updating transcripts, and informing parents of student progress.
- Coordinates resources in the school community and within the district for the fullest academic, career, personal and social development of students in programs such as Fayette County technical programs, Section 504, Targeted Intervention Plans, Gifted/Talented services, ILPs, Providence School referrals, Truancy Diversion Program and other as identified by the school.
- Organizes and coordinates various student recognition programs and assists with graduation.
- Ensures seamless transitions of students exiting and entering the school through review of student records and open communication with other educational professionals.
- Develops, coordinates, implements, and monitors a plan to address student attendance at the building level. Works in conjunction with the Attendance Advocate and Director of Pupil Personnel to support individual students.
- Adheres to laws, policies, procedures, and ethical standards of their profession.
- Participates in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
- Performs appropriate school management duties.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the principal.
SALARY: Based on Rank and Experience according to Certified Salary Schedule, additional days as outlined in staffing allocation, Extra Duty Stipend
