Formwork Engineer I

The Formwork Engineer I assists in the design and preparation of formwork layout drawings. Under the guidance of senior engineering, the engineer supports project planning to ensure efficient, safe, and economical form systems are incorporated into the project design.
Roles and Responsibilities- Calculate preliminary loads for shoring, forming, and reshoring.
- Determine member sizes and proper spacing.
- Ensure formwork loads fall within the capacities of the crane.
- Confirm framing layouts meet the design load requirements.
- Design lifting and rigging equipment.
- Design temporary bracing for existing structures such as walls and floors.
- Present all calculations for review to the assigned Formwork Engineer II or III.
- Provide design calculations for the production of formwork shop drawings.
- Produce pour break drawings.
- Produce preliminary crane layout drawings based on design calculations.
- Identify safety issues on the drawings.
- Communicate with the field on drawing conflicts and issues related to formwork.
- Review construction drawings for dimensional conflicts and clarifications.
- Produce RFIs to resolve conflicts.
- Produce repetitive drawings for typical formwork layout.
- Maintain project drawing files.
- Plot and assemble drawings per standards set by the Engineering Department.
- Compare and check production drawings to the construction documents.
- Participate in transition meetings to determine production schedule for shop.
- Provide quantity take-offs of form material to the shop for fabrication and shipment.
- Monitor shop production with the field progress.
- Produce work orders to shop for pre‑assembly of forms to be shipped to the field.
- Establish delivery dates for formwork delivered to project.
- Perform inspection of detailed formwork installations.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
- EIT credentials preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Basic understanding of BIM.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business documents, technical procedures, and government regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, and customers.
- Good listening skills.
- Ability to apply concepts such as algebra, fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions, geometry, trigonometry, and interpolation to practical situations.
- Ability to understand, customize, and modify spreadsheets.
- Ability to use, understand, and interpret structural analysis software.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to think outside the box.
