- Performs technical duties and fieldwork related to the inspection, maintenance, and operation of state‑maintained roads, bridges, and transportation infrastructure.
- Assists higher‑level technicians, engineers, and supervisors in a variety of highway maintenance and construction activities.
- Conducts basic technical inspection work and basic surveying to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and standards for highway and bridge construction projects administered by NCDOT.
- Executes on‑site inspection, documentation, material testing, and quantity measurements of construction activities to ensure workmanship, materials, and methods comply with state and federal requirements.
- Interprets construction plans, contract provisions, specifications, and inspection procedures, and takes accurate notes.
- Utilizes computer software such as GIS, Outlook, and Excel.
- Ability to lift 40 to 50 pounds and work in high‑traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, extreme temperatures, uneven terrain, and during nights and weekends if necessary.
- Good communicative skills and attention to detail.
- Knowledge, skills, and abilities: experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports including computer/iPad data entry; basic math concepts; basic concepts, practices, and theories used in the technical specialty area with limited supervision.
Grade NC04, Salary Range: $32,287 – $56,502.
Minimum Education and ExperienceHigh school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience as described by the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide.
