Environmental, Safety, and Health Coordinator Principal

The Environmental, Safety, and Health Coordinator Principal is responsible for coordinating the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic goals within their assigned region, plant, and project scope. They prepare, advise, and assist management on the administration of safety and health (S&H) event prevention policies and procedures, including public safety matters. They also coordinate and implement the safety and health programs within their assigned region or facility and work closely with corporate Safety and Health management in developing and implementing advanced training programs for their geographic region or technical expertise.

The Environmental, Safety, and Health Coordinator Staff exhibits the highest level of proficiency and expert knowledge in a specialized technical area, serving as the primary resource for the company. They lead advanced projects related to unique areas of the AEP generating fleet, providing highly technical work activities and projects that apply advanced knowledge in a safe and efficient manner. They coordinate the implementation of environmental compliance programs, permit requirements, and corporate environmental policies, standards, procedures, and strategic goals within their assigned region, plant, and project scope.

They prepare, advise, and assist management on the administration of safety and health (S&H) event prevention policies and procedures, including public safety matters, and coordinate and implement the safety and health programs within their region or facility. They work with corporate Safety and Health management to develop and implement advanced training programs applicable to their geographic region or technical expertise.

• Instruct, advise, and assist management and personnel to carry out the company's environmental, safety and health programs.
• Prepare and deliver training and familiarization topics of the company's environmental, safety, and health programs to employees.
• Conduct observations and coaching of AEP personnel to ensure the successful implementation of the company's safety and health programs.
• Provide support during environmental, safety, and health compliance audits and inspections.
• Coordinate and respond to public inquiries regarding environmental matters.
• Develop and maintain environmental documents and records for compliance regulations.
• Advise and assist management in post‑event safety and health causal analysis.
• Provide support in the event of a release or discharge of a regulated substance, including notifying agencies, arranging contractor support, directing clean‑up efforts, and following up with regulatory agencies.
• Maintain a good working knowledge of applicable federal, state, or local rules and regulations pertaining to safety and health.
• Promote and enforce the company's safety and health event prevention programs.
• Provide direction for plant staff, plant management, and others to facilitate a successful fleet program at each applicable site.
• Build teams and networks that extend through AEP, other companies, professional organizations, regulatory agencies, and academia.
• Make decisions likely to impact the AEP system and strategic direction.
• Possess the knowledge and experience to make and take full accountability for all technical decisions.
• Demonstrate the ability to make your area of expertise a strategic asset of the AEP system.

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or another relevant field.
• Associates degree with 10 years of experience in power plant or utility field operations.
• High School Diploma/GED with 12 years of experience in Environmental, Safety & Health program administration and related field experience.

• Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in Environmental, Safety and Health program administration, or a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in power plant or utility field operations.
