This Position Is Responsible For
  • Receives training from higher level Weights and Measures Inspector to learn operation of fuel prover and heavy duty scale testing unit to test meters and scales for suitability, accuracy and compliance with applicable state laws, rules, and regulations and learns appropriate actions to execute based on test results and completes training requirements established pursuant to Section 1327.50 (P) of Ohio Revised Code (ORC): operates heavy duty scale testing truck unit in and around state of Ohio
  • Checks large capacity vehicles/livestock scales for accuracy and compliance with applicable state laws (i.e., ORC , rules, regulations and/or procedures implemented pursuant to applicable statutes
  • Takes appropriate action based on results of inspection and testing (e.g., approves, rejects for repair, condemns from use)
  • Conducts special and normal tests on commercial weighing and measuring equipment
  • Performs tolerance testing and calibration of weights and measures standards (e.g., field standards and weighing/measuring equipment used in law enforcement)
  • Tests and inspects commodities and packaged items
  • Uses required statistical sampling techniques to ensure quantities and labeling is compliant with established legal requirements
  • Prepares test reports and takes appropriate action based on results of inspections and testing (e.g., approves, rejects for repair, condemns from use, stops sale, holds or removes orders)
  • Provides guidance and training to local weights and measures departments and maintains accurate, meaningful, and concise reports; trains and assists county and/or city weights and measures inspection staff on related weights and measures problems
  • Appears in court as expert witness
  • Provides training in Ohio county and/or city employees on proper testing procedures
  • Attends special training courses to remain current in weights and measures field
  • Completes established training requirements pursuant to ORC 1327.50 (p) and Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) 901:6-9
  • Prepares and maintains testing reports (e.g., scale, meter and package checking)
  • Prepares and submits time sheets and bi-weekly itinerary reports
  • Provides and implements final disposition (e.g., sealing or condemning) of measuring and weighing devices
  • Performs special tests of commercial weighing and measuring equipment (e.g., computing scales, motor fuel dispensers, timing devices, conveyor scales)
  • Assists in tolerance testing of weights and measures devices
  • Maintains state standards and equipment
  • Performs general maintenance to weights and measures equipment (e.g., cleaning and/or preventative maintenance/minor repairs)
