Lab Tech-Medical Science II

Position:
Lab Technician in the Department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery.

Classification: FLSA Non-Exempt, Full Time, FTE 1.0.

Posting Number: S15308P. Opening Date: 06/16/2026. Closing Date: until filled. Proposed

Start Date:

07/13/2026.

Salary: $40,000 - $57,000.

Location:

Athens, Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and assist in implementation of research projects including data collection, assay development and execution, and project management.
  • Perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as RT and gel-based PCR, flow cytometry, western blots, cell culture, ELISAs, and HPLC.
  • Sample processing and assay development for clinical trials.
  • Conduct complex research experiments following lab protocols.
  • Work with multiple investigators; maintain accurate records, assist with literature searches, prepare data reports.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and inventory; autoclaving, dishwashing, hazardous waste disposal, and ordering supplies.
  • Assist with shipping/receiving of materials.
  • Perform light animal work (restraint, medicating, assessing) as required.
Qualifications

Minimum:
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

Preferred:
Prior research experience.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: strong organizational and analytical skills, sterile technique, cell culture, basic computer knowledge (MS Word, Excel), effective communication, critical thinking, confidentiality, positive attitude, constructive criticism.

Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Sit, stand, stoop, bend, and walk intermittently on hard floor surfaces.
  • Work with small, delicate equipment or large heavy objects.
  • Wear protective gear (facemask, gloves, gown, hairnet, safety goggles).
  • Work for long periods with arms extended.
