Sheet Metal Worker II
This position requires 5 years of experience working in a structural maintenance or construction setting and denotes an aptitude for facilities maintenance, construction, and upkeep of physical properties.
Responsibilities- Install assemblies such as flashing, pipes, tubes, heating and air conditioning ducts, furnace casings, rain gutters, and downspouts in supportive frameworks.
- Fasten seams and joints with welds, bolts, cement, rivets, solder, caulks, metal drive clips, and bonds to assemble products or repair sheet metal items.
- Fabricate or alter parts at construction sites using shears, hammers, punches, and drills.
- Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints of assembled parts using hand tools and portable power tools.
- Finish parts using hacksaws, rotary or squaring shears.
- Maintain equipment, making repairs and modifications when necessary.
- Shape metal material over anvils, blocks or other forms using hand tools.
- Transport prefabricated parts to construction sites for assembly and installation.
- Develop and lay out patterns that use materials most efficiently with computerized metalworking equipment.
- Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material such as roofing panels according to drawings or templates.
- Inspect individual parts, assemblies, and installations for conformance to specifications and building codes using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales and micrometers.
- Determine project requirements, including scope, assembly sequences, and required methods and materials, according to blueprints, drawings and written or verbal instructions.
- Convert blueprints into shop drawings for use in construction and assembly of sheet metal products.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the described work.
High school diploma or equivalent and 5 years of related experience.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred qualifications include a demonstrated aptitude for facilities maintenance, construction, and upkeep of physical properties.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Advanced level tradesman.
- Drafting, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment.
- Effective communication within the organization to facilitate repair efforts.
- Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Perform all construction, remodel, repair, replacement, and renovation duties in accordance with departmental standards and applicable codes.
- Lift, stoop, crawl, and work from a standard and/or extended ladder.
- Lift up to 75 lbs during a normal 8‑hour work shift.
- Meet standard requirements of the trades positions.
Salary: $50,000 or commensurate with experience.
Schedule:
Monday–Friday 8:00 AM–4:30 PM; may be required to work evenings or weekends due to emergency situations or planned work.
Location:
Athens Area.
