Role Overview
Senior Software Engineer in the Personal Lines Policy Ops team, shaping modern solutions for Policy Administration technology stack at Central Insurance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Write code, provide architectural design and document contributions to software development efforts.
  • Apply appropriate design patterns and techniques to produce readable, testable, and maintainable code.
  • Adopt testing practices and use quality metrics to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Use systematic debugging to diagnose issues within the domain scope.
  • Drive monitoring initiatives based on the organization’s monitoring philosophy, leveraging operational data for stability and performance improvements.
  • Own domain expertise, including service breadth, interactions, and data flows; understand adjacent domain needs.
  • Participate in inter‑team workflow design conversations, articulating needs for APIs and data flows.
  • Design services and systems as an architect, balancing future scalability with current delivery speed.
  • Collaborate with the security team to refine and enforce security practices aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Critically review epics and projects, ensuring proper breakdown, prioritization, and clear understanding by the team.
  • Establish dependency awareness and foster a culture of priority setting and urgency.
  • Handle risk, change, and uncertainty responsibly in routine and high‑pressure scenarios.
  • Communicate blockers, delays, and cost impacts proactively to minimize escalation.
  • Apply economic thinking to weigh cost and value when making decisions.
  • Mentor teammates, fostering documentation, knowledge sharing, and a culture of constructive feedback.
  • Encourage respectful discussion, open to changing perspectives based on feedback.
  • Align team practices and processes with organizational strategy.
  • Represent the team in design and debugging discussions with other teams.
  • Coordinate design and implementation conversations across teams.
  • Propose architectural decisions via RFCs and document designs with diagrams.
  • Provide feedback to Engineering Managers on delivery process performance.
  • Enforce standards and agreed behaviors through code reviews.
  • Write unit, integration, and schema verification tests; coach juniors on testability.
  • Communicate trade‑offs between design choices.
  • Engage daily with engineers, keep progress visible, and pair‑program as needed.
  • Help onboard new engineers and disseminate team tools and processes.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science and 2 years of related experience.
  • Or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years of related experience.
  • Or 6 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Front‑end specialist or solid experience with service‑oriented architecture patterns.
  • Ability to balance speed of change and future flexibility in design choices.
  • Commitment to coaching and treating engineering as a craft.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of complex software systems, including enterprise, middleware, and messaging.
  • Strong experience in software development and systems engineering.
  • Business acumen and root‑cause analysis expertise.
  • Extensive experience with software application design tools and languages.
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience writing and executing test plans, debugging, and testing scripts.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
