Summary of Position

The Quality Control Lab Technician is tasked with analyzing raw materials and production samples to verify adherence to established specifications. Responsibilities include conducting organoleptic (sensory) evaluations, performing analytical tests, and maintaining accurate documentation in support of consistent product quality and safety. The position also oversees laboratory equipment repairs, calibrations, and standardizations. Additionally, the technician provides technical assistance for projects and collaborates with cross‑functional teams as necessary.

This role demands proficiency in resolving quality non‑conformance issues, executing product testing protocols, and applying advanced critical thinking skills.

  • Conduct organoleptic (sensory) evaluations of raw materials, flavor ingredients, and finished products.
  • Perform routine QC tests such as specific gravity, refractive index, pH, flashpoint, particle size, water activity, and moisture testing.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate QC records, test results, and batch release documentation.
  • Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and supplier documentation for compliance.
  • Approve completed new product batches against prescribed specifications.
  • Assist with product investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Work closely with Production, R&D teams, co‑manufacturers, and the Purchasing team to resolve quality issues.
  • Support customer requests (COAs, shelf‑life extensions, etc.) and coordinate external lab testing as needed.
  • Manage laboratory instrument calibrations, repairs, and annual maintenance.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized lab environment.
  • Contribute to sample inventory management and proper disposal of expired materials.
  • Communicate with co‑manufacturers regarding any deviations.
  • Other duties and leadership opportunities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1–3 years of experience in the Food and/or Beverage industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Understanding of FDA, USDA, GMP, and State Food Safety/Quality regulations.
  • Ability to remain focused and accurate in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Physical ability to move and lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable participating in sensory evaluations (may include allergens).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory instruments (e.g., pH meters, balances, moisture analyzers, and spectrophotometers).
  • Experience with data management and quality documentation systems (QMS, LIMS, or ERP platforms).
