Job Title: Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Engineer - (All Plants)

Reports to: Business Unit Leader of Specified Plant

FLSA Status: EXEMPT

Schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00a to 5:00p) extended hours may be required to support business needs

Primary duties and responsibilities:
  • Actively coach salaried and hourly employees on expected and acceptable Safety behaviors and activities on the shop floor to reduce and/or eliminate incidents and accidents.
  • Encourage employees to look out for one another and and to point out unsafe conditions or actions to each other and the EHS Engineer.
  • Utilize hierarchy of controls to eliminate hazards and reduce risks in the plant(s).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Manufacturing Managers, and Maintenance Technicians to identify and track engineered safety solutions to eliminate unsafe conditions.
  • Conduct accident and incident investigations. Provide hands‑on guidance to plant supervisors regarding accident reporting.
  • Complete Root Cause Analysis of accidents and incidents to prevent re‑occurrences and drive corrective actions.
  • Develop SOPs, JHA/JSA.
  • File accident claims with Workers Comp carrier.
  • Oversee Lite Duty return‑to‑work program. Interact with Occupational Health Clinic, injured worker, supervisor, and Workers Comp claims adjuster to facilitate work within restrictions.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, and other Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations.
  • Identify OSHA or other regulatory‑required employee training; coordinate or conduct required employee training.
  • Maintain all OSHA‑required written programs; emergency action plans, SDS, etc.
  • Conduct all OSHA‑required testing, such as hearing, air quality testing, respirator fit testing, etc.
  • Chair monthly Safety Committee Meetings at each plant.
  • Conduct new hire safety onboarding.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of the plant(s) at regular intervals for compliance with Company safety policies and applicable regulations.
  • Conduct and lead coordination of Inspections by regulatory agencies (OSHA/ MIOSHA/ IOSHA); ensure deficiencies are minimized and corrected, and present findings and corrections to Business Unit Leaders and General Manager.
  • Maintain metrics in accordance with Company requirements; QOS, etc.
  • Assist with IATF/ISO audits, both internal and external.
  • Travel to other plants is expected—MI and IN frequently; and MO occasionally.
  • Other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance.
  • Education, prior work experience and specialized skills and knowledge:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, or related technical field is preferred.
    • 3 years of experience implementing and administering safety programs in a manufacturing environment is required.
    • Prefer certifications such as CSP or OSHA 1910 General Industry 10‑30‑hour.
    • Strong technology skills (Excel, Word, Outlook, Plex, etc.)
    • Ability to lead and influence others to achieve EHS targets in a diverse work environment.
    Physical environment/working conditions:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be expected to go between an office and manufacturing environment daily. All applicable PPE is required while walking the manufacturing floor.

    Must be able to work as part of a team. Must maintain confidentiality when working on assignments.
