About the Unit
Provide services in accordance with Corewell Health’s commitment to caring for victims of sexual assault, abuse, intimate partner violence, child abuse, vulnerable adult abuse, and other victims of violence in the community. Under minimal supervision, the nurse provides and manages professional forensic nursing care in accordance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, professional nursing standards, and established hospital policies and procedures.
The nurse exercises professional judgment in utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, works closely with and may direct other professional, ancillary, and/or volunteer personnel, collects health data related to sexual or physical violence, reports information to the appropriate sources, maintains documents, prepares reports, and provides courtroom testimony when subpoenaed.
The RN applies the nursing process and patient-family-centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge patients. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader, recognizes the impact of nurse care and partnership on outcomes, partners with patients and families, documents education and learning, and develops teaching strategies.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Michigan Registered Nurse (RN) license
- At least 2 years of acute care nursing experience
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Adult/Adolescent (SANE‑A) certification required for 0.5 FTE and above; preferred for PRN within 3 years
- Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Pediatric (SANE‑P) certification required for 0.5 FTE and above; preferred for PRN within 3 years
