Assistant in Training (AIT) / Assistant Manager

The primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” The role includes a variety of sales, merchandising, and operational tasks such as cashiering, merchandising displays, register procedures, and routine facility clean‑up. The AIT and Assistant Manager work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, provide leadership, and share responsibility for training and motivating teammates.

The Assistant Manager role is a progression from the AIT position and includes additional higher‑level duties while sharing the majority of responsibilities.

Responsibilities Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide exceptional service.
  • Answer questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate merchandise based on guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with teammates.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by store management.
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store’s front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area.
  • Utilize the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily and pursue performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty.
  • Explore ways to expand guest selection through inventory management and advanced product search.
  • Build and maintain good guest relationships to develop client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with showmanship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness.
  • Coach teammates, welcome feedback from management, and maintain high standards regardless of manager presence.
  • Plan sales goals with the Store Manager and demonstrate ownership of store sales performance.
  • Passion for product education and showmanship to create measurable results.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Identify recruiting opportunities using jobs & careers cards, email referrals, and teammate recommendation.
  • Coach and build relationships through guest loyalty and guest preferred programs.
  • Develop skills and lead, direct, motivate, and educate new teammates to achieve Buckle’s accountability, shift orientation, loss prevention, and sales presentation standards.
  • Maintain a positive floor culture and demonstrate proper dress code.
  • Participate effectively in daily setup, training, and performance tracking.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by store management.
  • Showcase denim showmanship and fit cards to teammates and guests.
  • Execute department calendar actions, track on the Weekly Delegation Worksheet, and demonstrate leadership actions.
  • Encourage guest involvement with product and remember guest names.
  • Partner with the Store Manager to set education focus and delegate throughout the week.
  • Assist in recruitment of all store staffing needs and explain pay and benefit information.
  • Maintain an up‑to‑date contact list and add top talent consistently.
  • Execute training on the Leadership playbook and train on non‑sales positions.
  • Identify and follow through on all teammate training needs.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership, assigning zones and projects to teammates.
  • Execute and demonstrate new tools and videos related to zone ownership.
  • Delegate, review, and ensure visual standards across all 4 zones.
  • Communicate merchandising opportunities and recommendations to the Store Manager.
  • Deliver store tours, ensure consistent product display, and improve performance via the Performance Tracker.
  • Maintain visual standards on floor and backroom.
Operations
  • Work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holiday periods.
  • Use the planner, complete opening and closing checklists, and manage security risks.
