Special Education Teacher - Cross Cat Teacher; Grades 5-6

Primary Tasks & Major Activities

• Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students Grades K-6.
• Provide direct, specialized instruction and perform individualized assessment and interpretation.
• Teach life skills and academic skills while applying strong behavior‑management techniques.
• Attend and participate in relevant meetings, staffings, and parent meetings.
• Initiate and complete required paperwork within established timelines.
• Collaborate with staff and individuals regarding student programming and services.
• Delegate and supervise paraprofessional(s) assigned within the classroom.
• Provide individualized and small‑group instruction and co‑teach in a team environment.
• Collect data and manage classroom behavior effectively.
• Support building‑level and district policies.
• Administer MAP/EOC/MAP‑A assessments.

• Certification in K‑12 Special Education (cross‑categorical).
• Knowledge and expertise in working with various eligibility categories.
• Preferred:
  Prior teaching experience with students who have high needs and in teaching life skills.
• Training in behavior management is required.
• Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.
• Competent technical skills.
• Regular attendance and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, and students.
• Knowledge of grade‑level and functional curriculum appropriate to the position.
• Preferred:
  Experience with the Missouri Assessment Program (MAP‑A).
• Willingness to be trained in the appropriate use of seclusion, isolation, and restraint procedures.
• Willingness to understand and support the District’s Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug test satisfactory to the Board of Education.
