Special Education Teacher; K-6 Resource Cross Categorical

Primary Tasks & Major Activities

• Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEP).
• Provide direct, specialized instruction for students.
• Perform student individualized assessment and interpretation.
• Must be able to teach academic skills and exhibit strong skills in behavior management.
• Attend/participate in relevant meetings and staffings.
• Initiate and complete required paperwork within established timelines.
• Collaborate with appropriate staff/individuals regarding student programming and services.
• Delegate and supervise paraprofessional(s) assigned within the classroom.
• Must be a team player.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction and co‑teaching in a team environment.
• Collect data and manage behavior effectively.
• Attend/participate in parent meetings and relevant after‑school and/or evening activities.
• Supervise and evaluate paraprofessionals assigned to the classroom.
• Have knowledge of and support building‑level and district policies.
• Administer MAP and other district assessments.

Educational/Skills/Experience Required

• Certification in K-12 Special Education, cross categorical.
• Knowledge and expertise in working with the various eligibility categories.
• Prefer previous teaching experience in a classroom with students with high needs and teaching life skills.
• Training in behavior management is required.
• Minimum of three years teaching experience preferred.
• Competent technical skills.
• Regular attendance and positive interpersonal relationships with staff, parents, and students.
• Knowledge of appropriate grade-level and functional curriculum associated with the position.
• Knowledge of requirements and prior experience with Missouri Assessment Program preferred.
• Willingness to be trained in appropriate use of seclusion, isolation, and restraint procedures.
• Willingness to understand and support the District's Comprehensive School Improvement Plan.
• Must successfully pass a background check and drug test satisfactory to the Board of Education.
