Senior Construction Estimator

The Senior Estimator is a key part of the JL team and is responsible for overseeing the pricing and development of projects for customers as outlined in the contract. This individual is responsible for leading the estimating team and ensuring bids are accurate and timely in their submission. The Senior Estimator works closely with the Director of Business Development to pursue the right types of projects and set up projects for success.

They will be responsible for ensuring that the JL team is solidifying enough bids to support company goals and budgets.

The Senior Estimator must effectively communicate with project managers, suppliers, vendors and customers to facilitate a smooth hand-off to the project manager. This individual is responsible for reviewing results of bids lost to identify opportunities for improvements, and reviewing results of bids won to ensure that awarded jobs are profitable.

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field preferred
• 5-7 years of estimating experience in carpentry, framing, or a related construction trade, including senior estimating responsibility preferred
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and construction documents

• Perform detailed quantity take-offs from architectural, structural, and shop drawings for framing, rough carpentry, finish carpentry, and millwork scopes.
• Identify value-engineering opportunities and alternative methods or materials to improve competitiveness.
• Mentor and review the work of junior estimators; support development of estimating standards and templates.
• Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks as needed to assess project conditions and scope.
• Maintain relationships with general contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors to support accurate and timely pricing.
• Represent the company at networking events to ensure relationships are established and built, while also being an active part of the regional construction industry.

• Solicit, evaluate, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure competitive and complete pricing.
• Prepare and present bid proposals, budgets, and change order pricing within established deadlines.
