Summary of Position

Assist the Health Physics Leader and Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) with the implementation and management of the Radiation Protection Program and regulatory functions related to the manufacturing of radiopharmaceutical products, research and development and other pertinent functions. Provide leadership, expertise, and technical support for radiation safety and Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) related issues that includes, but are not limited to, the essential functions listed below.

Monday - Friday 7am-3:30pm

Essential Functions
  • Support the Health Physics group to the manufacturing and support organizations for all radiation safety and other EHS related issues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of radiation safety programs and practices for compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with license amendments related to Curium operating licenses and permits.
  • Serve as radiation safety technical advisor to product development and associated projects.
  • Develop technical basis documents for regulatory compliance, program recommendations, or changes in practice.
  • Assist the RSO with the implementation, maintenance and oversight of the Radiation Protection Program. This includes, but is not limited to, program management, metric development and tracking, and proactive corrective actions.
  • Develop and revise standard operating procedures.
  • Develop, implement and manage dose and contamination reduction initiatives.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Emergency Response Plans.
  • Develop and maintain oversight of Radiation Work Permits.
  • Perform audits of programs, processes and working areas.
  • Provide periodic reports and documentation materials for review by the Radiation Safety Committee and site management as necessary.
  • Develop and implement training sessions related to radiation safety practices and requirements.
  • Must maintain operational compliance with US and international regulatory agencies and guidelines (i.e. FDA, EU, HC, TGA, PIC/S, ISO, USP, NRC, cGMP, etc.).
  • Other EHS assignments as necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) or Engineering with three years of professional experience is required. Master of Science degree in physical sciences (physics, chemistry, biology, etc.) or engineering preferred.
  • Certified Health Physicist (CHP) accreditation by the American Board of Health Physics is preferred.
  • Operational experience in comprehensive Radiation Safety Programs is required.
  • Must possess technical background and knowledge of applicable radiation safety regulations (e.g., NRC, DOE, EPA, DOT).
  • Must possess strong technical, analytical, communications, organizational, project management, interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Experience and expertise in use of software systems used for dose assessment (e.g., CAP
    88, RASCAL, VARSKIN, IMBA) and radiation modeling and shielding (e.g., Micro Shield, MCNP) are highly desirable.
