Job Description
TEACHER
Purpose StatementThe job of TEACHER is done to facilitate student success in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes, addressing specific educational needs of students, providing a safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.
This position reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress to support teacher expectations and reinforce classroom goals at home.
- Assess student progress, expectations, and goals, and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Demonstrate methods required for effective school programs and address individual student needs.
- Direct student workers and volunteers to maximize efficiency and meet work requirements.
- Facilitate student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Monitor student activities (e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds) to ensure safety and welfare.
- Participate in meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
- Prepare teaching materials and related reports (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to implement lesson plans and document progress.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain student safety, provide a positive learning environment, and adhere to Education Code and school policies.
- Assist other teachers with curriculum implementation.
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications Skills
Preparing and maintaining accurate records, analytical skills to promote a child-centered environment, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
KnowledgeAlgebra and/or geometry; reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, presenting information to others; and analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Knowledge of age-appropriate activities, grammar and punctuation, relevant codes, policies, regulations, safety practices and procedures, stages of child development, and working knowledge of the school system.
AbilityScheduling activities, meetings, and events; gathering, collating, and classifying data; working with diverse groups; problem solving; maintaining confidentiality; meeting deadlines; and utilizing technology and equipment. Ability to adapt curriculum, manage classroom, and implement student learning activities.
ResponsibilitiesWork under limited supervision with standardized practices; provide information and advise others; operate within a defined budget; and utilize resources from other work units as needed.
Working EnvironmentOccasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling; climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. Work involves 5% sitting, 20% walking, and 75% standing in a clean and healthy environment.
ExperienceJob-related experience is desired.
EducationBachelor’s degree in a related field.
Certificates & LicensesAppropriate certification through the Arizona Department of Education, Valid Arizona Teaching Certificate, and SEI (45 hours) endorsement are required. Additional endorsements may be required for certain positions.
ClearancesMaintain an Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) fingerprint clearance card.
Position TypeFull-Time.
Salary$37,581.60 per year.
