SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

Purpose Statement
The role of SUBSTITUTE TEACHER is to promote student success by implementing district-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, ensuring a safe learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Assess student progress, expectations, and goals to provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
- Collaborate with school personnel, parents, and community agencies to improve student outcomes, develop solutions, and plan curriculum.
- Direct student workers and volunteers to maximize efficiency and meet work requirements.
- Facilitate student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through a defined course of study.
- Monitor student activities (e.g., classroom, lunch, grounds) to ensure safety and welfare.
- Report incidents (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse) to maintain safety, foster a positive environment, and comply with education code and school policy.
- Assist other teachers in implementing curriculum.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
Skills – Prepare and maintain accurate records; analytical skills promoting child-centered environments; verbal and written communication.
Knowledge – Algebra and/or geometry; ability to read manuals, write documents, present information; understanding of age-appropriate activities, grammar and punctuation, relevant codes and regulations, safety procedures, child development stages, and school systems.
Abilities – Schedule activities, gather and classify data; solve problems, adapt curriculum, address diverse learning styles, communicate with diverse groups and students, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, plan instructional goals, use technology, and work as part of a team.
ResponsibilitiesWork under limited supervision following standardized practices, provide information and advice to others, and operate within a defined budget. Resources from other units may be utilized as needed.
Working EnvironmentPhysical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling. The job requires 5% sitting, 20% walking, and 75% standing in a clean, healthy environment.
ExperienceJob-related experience is desired.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.

Required Testing, Certificates & LicensesValid Arizona Substitute Teaching Certificate.
Continuing Education / Training ClearancesMaintain Arizona Certification and fingerprint card;
Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.

Substitute 1 grade. Position type:
Part‑Time. Salary: $21 to $23.75 per hour.
