Position: Adult Probation Officer 1/2A

Adult Probation Officer 1/2A – Anvil Mountain Correctional Center (AMCC), Nome, Alaska

Responsibilities: The incumbent will handle the full range of Probation and Parole work at AMCC, collaborating with local, state and federal law enforcement, the Court system, the Alaska Board of Parole, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and community agencies to aid inmates in their re‑entry efforts while maintaining community safety. The officer will make recommendations to the Adult Probation Officer 3 and Superintendent regarding appropriate custody levels and housing placements, and may serve in a Correctional Officer capacity for overtime.

Qualifications
  • Required:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR four years of subcontracted paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pre‑trial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement.
  • Substitution:
    Four years in any combination of post‑secondary education and paraprofessional experience equivalent to one month per 2.67 semester hours (4 quarter hours).
  • Specific competencies:
    Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving, Interpersonal Skills, Security, Integrity/Honesty, Adaptability.
