Adult Probation Officer 1/2A – Anvil Mountain Correctional Center (AMCC), Nome, Alaska
Responsibilities: The incumbent will handle the full range of Probation and Parole work at AMCC, collaborating with local, state and federal law enforcement, the Court system, the Alaska Board of Parole, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, and community agencies to aid inmates in their re‑entry efforts while maintaining community safety. The officer will make recommendations to the Adult Probation Officer 3 and Superintendent regarding appropriate custody levels and housing placements, and may serve in a Correctional Officer capacity for overtime.
Qualifications- Required:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field; OR four years of subcontracted paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pre‑trial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement. - Substitution:
Four years in any combination of post‑secondary education and paraprofessional experience equivalent to one month per 2.67 semester hours (4 quarter hours). - Specific competencies:
Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving, Interpersonal Skills, Security, Integrity/Honesty, Adaptability.
Flexible scheduling aligned with facility needs, overtime opportunities serving in a Correctional Officer role, and dynamic cross‑functional experience.
Employment ConditionsPositions are flexibly staffed; advancement to level 2A or 2B occurs upon completion of required training and certification. A valid driver’s license and the ability to carry a firearm (if required) are also necessary.
