Adult Probation Officer 1/2A – Anvil Mountain Correctional Center
The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Adult Probation Officer 1/2A for the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center (AMCC) located in Nome, Alaska.
ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for the full range of Probation and Parole work incumbent will work directly with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, the Court system, the Alaska Board of Parole, the District Attorney’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office and other community agencies to assist inmates in their re‑entry efforts while maintaining community safety. The incumbent will recommend appropriate custody levels and housing placements to the Adult Probation Officer 3 and the Superintendent.

- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in any field.
- Or four years of paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement.
- Or four years in any combination of post‑secondary education and paraprofessional experience (2.67 semester hours or 4 quarter hours of post‑secondary education are equivalent to one month of experience).
- Successful completion of training under a formally established Adult Probation Officer 1-2 flexible staffing training plan, or a bachelor’s degree.
- One year of professional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement.
- Or five years in any combination of post‑secondary education and paraprofessional experience.
Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, a United States citizen or national, and possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent. A valid driver’s license issued within the United States is required. Some positions may require carrying a firearm and maintaining a firearms proficiency qualification.
