Job Description

This position provides a wide variety of cleaning services and other related duties required to keep the facilities in a clean and orderly condition. This position will support the Nome Public Schools in Nome, AK. This is a non‑rotational position. Hiring local Nome residents only.

• Clean, sweep, vacuum, mop, sanitize and/or restock hallways, stairways, offices, food preparation or break areas, off‑site areas, restrooms, public areas, or other work areas as assigned.
• Open facilities for non‑school usage on weekends and evening events.
• Sweep, mop, scrub, strip, extract, wax, buff, vacuum, etc. all types of floors using appropriate equipment.
• Dust both low and high areas and wipe down or clean various surfaces.
• Use appropriate equipment and cleaning solutions for all tasks.
• Remove and properly dispose of discarded materials.
• Remove and transport trash to the appropriate disposal areas.
• May compact trash.
• May change light bulbs and perform light facility maintenance.
• May keep building entryways free of snow and debris.
• May operate a vehicle to work at various locations.
• Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success may also be assigned.

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Some combination of education or experience that evidences a working knowledge of cleaning equipment and general cleaning processes.
• Must have a working cell phone number to use on the job as a dispatch tool.
• Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English.

• Prior janitorial/custodian experience preferred.
