ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS!

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT PF) Northern Region Highways and Aviation is looking for a Full-Time Equipment Operator Journey 2 in Nome to help us Keep Alaska Moving!

What you will be doing

Equipment Operator Journey 2:

  • Perform year-round maintenance of state highways and airports, including operating and servicing heavy and light-duty equipment.
  • Operate various machinery such as graders, dozers (D4 to D7), loaders, semi-tractors with belly dumps, and snow removal equipment for tasks like plowing, hauling, ditching, and surface repairs.
  • Conduct traffic control duties including flagging and support general maintenance activities like vegetation control, sign and fence upkeep, and drainage structure maintenance.
  • Perform additional duties such as welding, steam boiler operation for thawing drainage structures, vehicle maintenance, and shop cleanup.
  • May serve as lead, requiring daily entries into the State MMS computer system.

This is a full-time position located in Nome, Alaska, within the Western District. Expect a dynamic, fast-paced environment with varied responsibilities and conditions. You’ll work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging weather or terrain. Shift work and emergency responses are part of the role, and safety is a priority.
