Kawerak, Inc. is a non-profit organization that relies on federal agency and grant funding primarily to fund positions. This position is funded by agency or grant funding. This means that this position, as with all positions at Kawerak, is subject to availability of funding each year to continue to fund the position.

The Child Advocacy Center (CAC) is a child-friendly and culturally appropriate center for the investigation of child sexual abuse. The Multidisciplinary Team Coordinator is the lead interviewer and coordinates and participates in the MDT process, disseminating pertinent information to MDT partners and activities, organizing monthly case review. This position must be willing to work with children and people of all ages that have experienced physical or sexual abuse, witnessed or experienced domestic violence, severe or medical neglect, and/or have been exposed to drugs.

Summary of

Job Responsibilities
  • Receive and process case referrals, ensuring all necessary documentation is obtained and reviewed.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with MDT partner agencies (law enforcement, child protective services, prosecution, medical, mental health, etc.).
  • Schedule and coordinate MDT meetings, including initial case reviews, follow‑up discussions, and case closure meetings. Prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, and other relevant materials to MDT members.
  • Facilitate MDT meetings, ensuring productive discussions, collaborative problem‑solving, and adherence to MDT protocols.
  • Complete Child First Forensic Interviewer training and conduct interviews as needed.
  • Maintain case tracking in NCATrak, monitoring case progress and ensuring timely follow‑up on recommendations.
  • Manage and maintain secure case files and data in accordance with CAC policies and confidentiality protocols.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration among MDT members, promoting a positive and respectful team environment.
  • In collaboration with the CAC Director, mediate and resolve conflicts or disagreements that may arise within the MDT. Monitor MDT dynamics and identify opportunities for improvement in team functioning.
  • Identify, coordinate, and track training and accreditation needs for MDT members.
  • Provide orientation and training to new MDT members on the CAC/MDT model and protocols.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and training opportunities to stay current on best practices in the field.
  • Ability to take one on‑call shift a month or more if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Criminal Justice or a closely related field. Work experience in the field may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Must be willing to attend required professional development and training.
  • Experience with administrative duties including interaction with the public and with agency representatives.
  • Ability to work with multiple agencies in coordinating, planning, and delivering services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with MDT members with a wide range of professional backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals of varied cultural backgrounds and age groups who may have experienced physical or sexual abuse.
  • Computer and office skills required. Must possess knowledge and skills in Internet usage and Microsoft Office software.
  • Must be dependable, self‑motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act AS .05.390, 7 AAC , and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 USC  (ICPA). A background check clearance is required, including fingerprints, and the employee’s name will be submitted to the Background Check Unit of the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services and entered into their central registry.

    Barrier Crimes Act and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
